What is the CrossFit Open & Why You Should Sign Up!
WHAT IS THE CROSSFIT OPEN?
The Open is the first qualifying stage of the CrossFit Games. Any athlete who wants to compete at the Games must first make it through the Open in their region.
Every Thursday for five weeks, CrossFit releases a new workout to be performed at your affiliate. At CrossFit Chapel Hill, we will be doing these workouts every Saturday as a group for those five weeks.
While the purpose of the Open is to find the fittest athletes in each region to move on to the Regionals competition, it’s also an opportunity for any athlete at any level to participate in the competition. Completing the Open workouts is a great way to track your progress from year to year, to see how you rank against other Open participants all over the world, and it is an awesome event to do as a community at the gym. Every year, we suffer through these workouts together, cheer each other on when we're not sure if we can finish even one more rep, and feel a lot closer and stronger as a community because of it. For those of you who have attended these Open workouts at the gym in the past, you know they can get pretty hyped!
Not only that, but it also helps you asses your strengths and weaknesses as an athlete, which can be a guide for setting realistic goals for the following year.
The Open is open to ALL athletes, regardless of skill level or amount of time you've been CrossFitting. Every Open workout will feature a scaled and rx option to choose from.
Think of the Open as an opportunity to set a performance baseline for CrossFit. I promise that you will be amazed at your progress if you continue with your CrossFit training and retest the following year.
